About us
Golden Cockerel Pty Ltd was formed in 1972 and is owned jointly by two families, the Benfers and the Elks, who have been involved in the poultry industry for three generations.
The Group is fully integrated comprising feed mills, hatcheries, parent farms, broiler farms, processing plant and distribution. The facilities are well spread and isolated from a disease control viewpoint in order to ensure continuity of supply in times of adversity.
The parent stock is sourced from two international breeding organisations who operate through Australian franchisees. The franchisees are obliged to supply parent stock to all independent processors throughout Australia.
There is a strong technical bias in management positions throughout the Group ensuring coordinated quality assurance programs from feed ingredients through to all livestock operations and processing activities.
Golden Cockerel processes in excess of 34,000,000 broilers per annum and accounts for 20.0% of the Queensland production. Group turnover is in excess of $250 million per annum.
The combined Group grows approximately 44,000,000 broilers per annum and in addition to the requirements of Golden Cockerel also supply several independent processors throughout South East Queensland.
The company services the full spectrum of end users including the major retailers, takeaway food chains, specialty poultry shops and butchers. An extensive range of raw value added products is marketed and poultry products are also exported, principally to the Pacific Region.
The processing plant at Mt. Cotton is installed with the latest processing equipment and plant extensions completed over the last two years exceeded $40,000,000
